INTERCULTURAL COMMUNICATION REFLECTION 
 
This assignment is about PRAXIS, taking the communication theories and concepts that you 
have learned about in this class and using them to reflect on the world around you. 
 
REQUIREMENTS 
 
This assignment is devoted to your perspective, thoughts, struggles, likes, dislikes, etc. related to 
the course concepts discussed in Communication Between Cultures by Samovar et al. The paper 
should be 3-to-5 pages in length, typed, double-spaced, and following APA citation style and 
college-level writing. Be sure to cite your sources in your text and provide a reference page. 
 
Within your reflection, you are required to identify at least 3 concepts from the Samovar et al. 
text to discuss. Example guiding questions to consider as you write your reflection include: 
1. What did you find interesting from the Samovar et al. reading and why? 
2. What did you find difficult to process when reflecting on the Samovar et al. reading? 
Explain. 
3. Consider reflecting on the world around you. What concepts from the Samovar et al. text 
come to mind? What connections did you fiend between the course concepts the real 
world?  
4. Based on your communication interactions and experiences with others, describe your 
reaction(s) to the Samovar et al. reading. Be specific. 
5. Discuss the solutions and/or suggestions made by Samovar et al. for improving 
intercultural communication. Consider identifying and discussing key points that can help 
to improve intercultural communication interactions.  
6. How and in what ways have the concepts discussed in the Samovar et al. text affected 
you? Be specific.  
 
Example concepts from the Samovar et al. text include: 
Identity (racial, ethnic, gender, regional, personal, organization, and cyber and fantasy), 
uncertainty avoidance (high/low), power distance (high/low), masculinity/femininity, 
face and facework, ethnocentrism, stereotyping, prejudice (functions of prejudice), 
racism (forms of racism), etc.

defining and applying the course concepts as they relate to your reflections.  
 
FORMAT OF THE PAPER 
 
Your paper should be 3 to 5 pages in length. 
The assignment must be typed, following APA citation style, double-spaced, 12-point 
font, one-inch margins on all sides, with attention paid to spelling, punctuation, and
