Reflection on chapter 2 and 3

In the 21st century there have been changes to the image of the traditional family. There have, also, been challenges in society to these changes. How is the traditional family explained in the video below and what do changes in the traditional family look like. In Chapter 4, we discussed factors that stabilize change (keep things from changing): stability of social norms, habitat, value attachment, and vested interest. Which of these values are playing a role in attempting to maintain the image of the traditional family? Are there reasons other than these 4 factors that may cause some people to challenge new ideas about family and attempt to hold onto the traditional image of family?

Reflection on chapter 2 and 3

In the clip of Braver the traditional tradition of the American Family was based on male and female image. Nowadays, the times have changed and parenthood is based on children being dependent to parents belonging to the same gender which means parents are either male or female. Furthermore the family unit in America has been altered because of the development of intergenerational relationships like the relationship between a black and white. In other words the child could grow up with a father of black and a white mom while the reverse is also true. This is due to the idea of adoption, as well as biological parental responsibility. Furthermore, the older American Family culture was not dependent on the notion of an African American male forming a family that included a female of white. and the reverse was the case. In the present, African Americans have formed families that include whites as well as other races. In the present, American family culture is founded on parents from different races, cultures and religions.
